Bird Mouth

We have recently started feeding Canaan. We started out with oatmeal, which he loves almost as much as his bottle. He is such a good eater: when he is ready for a bite, he opens his mouth up as big as it can get- just like a little bird. After a few weeks of oatmeal, we moved on to his first vegetable: green beans. He was not impressed! His face scrunched up and he started gagging. I thought he would eventually get used to them. I was wrong! We tried them for 3 days, until he just started crying when we fed him. So, the green beans went in the freezer and I cooked and blended some sweet potatoes for him. Canaan loves sweet potatoes! We’ve started him on a few fruits, but he really loves those potatoes and oatmeal more than anything else. Last night I made an asparagus-potato blend. We’ll see what he thinks about those!

My Little Genius

Ever since Canaan was about 3 months old he has shown an interest in books. He loves to look at, and chew on, his books. He amazes me at how long he will sit on my lap as I flip through and read to him the books. Here he is exploring one of his books on his own. It is a Peek-a-boo Elmo material book from his Grandma Janie in Ohio.

Hangin' with UD

This is Canaan with his Uncle David. I don’t know which one is more excited when they get together: David or Canaan. They are pals. Uncle David wants to be called UD for short. I think he was hoping that if he made his name short enough and easy enough, that it might be Canaan’s first word. We’ll see!

Catching Up

Well, my initial intent for Canaan's blog was to try to catch up on the past 6 months before I started posting anything more up-to-date. As you can tell, I only made it through his first two days! I just wanted to share with you a little about how Canaan is doing now; he is growing up so fast! Dougle and I are just the most proud parents ever! Maybe one day I will get caught up on my on-line scrap booking of his first few months. Until then, I hope to continue to keep you up-to-date on how he is doing now!

Kisses

After Canaan was first born, Dougle and I got to spend some time with him before everyone else came in. Then we were able to share our joy and excitement by showing him off to family and friends. After that, he was taken to the nursery for a little while and I was moved to a different room. Canaan was brought in to us, then taken away a few times that first day. Every time he was brought back to us, we just stared at him with loving eyes. He was so perfect. I snapped this photo when I was laying in my hospital bed, watching Daddy and Canaan have some Father-Son bonding time. Canaan is so blessed to have such a wonderful Daddy!

Day One!

Canaan Kirt arrived on October 31, 2006!

He was a healthy 7 pounds, 10 oz and 20 inches long.

After waiting nine long months to see him, he gave us this adorable face to remember! He was and is the cutest baby ever!
